Rules of Thumb

  • An exercise does not start without an approved hazard assessment carrying stop criteria and a real-emergency protocol, and does not reach CLOSED while any major or critical action is unverified.
  • Injects are released only while the exercise is IN_PROGRESS; a released inject records actual_release_at, its acknowledgement and its outcome.
  • Anything real that happens during an exercise window goes in the same event log with real_event = true. Never in a separate book.
  • A critical resource must be READY or formally limited — NOT_READY on a critical resource is an escalation, not a status update.
  • Action closure is verified by somebody other than the owner. The demo's verifications are all cross-person by design.
  • A competency expiring within 30 days is a warning, not a formality: the demo drops below the required three current incident-command holders on 20 August 2026, and there is an open action about it.
  • Contacts are verified on a 90-day cycle. Two in the demo are outside it, and that is visible on the contact list rather than hidden.
